Blog Assignment 1: Get to Know Me

I was born October 21, 1988 in Mobile, AL. I am the oldest of three children, all of which are girls. I was raised in a two parent home by my mother and father. I am a very family oriented person. My sisters are my world. I want only the best for them in their lives and I hope they both succeed to do great things. My parents are always pushing us to do our best and I appreciate them for that.
I love to write, and I believe that passion is what pushed me to strive to be an english teacher. I also love to sing. Singing and writing help me to express different emotions I am feeling. When I write I feel like I am able to say things on my piece of paper that I may not be able to say out loud. I also love spending time with my family and friends.
I ended up attending the University of South Alabama, because it is a good quality education near the people I love and want to be around most. I am looking forward to finishing school and being able to teach teenage students the importance of writing and how it can be an escape from their everyday problems. I am looking forward to being one of those teacher who are passionate about what they are teaching and their students. I am nervous, but very excited.

Blog Assignment 6

Networked Student

I think this will be great for students. I think it will teach them how to become an independent learner. The idea of students being independent learners by using technology gives them the chance to gain knowledge for by themselves through using the internet. Teachers are also going to have to step up their game and become more in tune with technology.
A networked student kind of scares me because I am still learning all the great things that technology has to offer.

A 7th Graders Personal Learning Environment

I like how her personal learning environment was made by her. Her personal learning environment gives her the opportunity to complete assignment and learn as she sees fit. She seems very excited and eager to learn and explore new ways for learning by using technology. While watching this blog two questions were raised in my head, Are ALL students able to be independent learners and what do we do if they are not?

Benefits of Podcasting in the Classroom
This video highlighted the good points on podcasting. Podcasting gives students the opportunity to learn through listening without having to have the teacher in front of the class talking the entire time. Podcasting allows you to get the entire class involved. Students are able to hear the voices of their peers and are able to learn at the same time.
Podcasting gives students who are out sick the chance to stay on top of the teachings that have taken place while they are out. Students enjoy podcast because they are able to listen to a particular lesson over and over if they need to.

Eagle Nest Radio and Class Blog
I really enjoyed their podcast on Ancient Rome. They read with enthusiasm and made me feel as if I were there. You could tell they had took time to do research on their topic. I really enjoyed hearing Jackson read about the gladiators. Job well done to the third grade class.

CT4#2

The teacher's blog I read was Kim Cofino. Her most recent blog talked about her opinion on the accreditation program at the school she is teaching at. Ms. Cofino teaches at Yokohama International School(YIS) and they are in their second year of the accreditation process. They are in the self-study stage. Self-study is a way of bringing concerns to the light and ensuring accontability for resolving issues. YIS goal is to raise awareness of what they could/shouldbe doing technology and gather feedback about what is actually happening at the school.

Blog Assignment 4

Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff. Please
This blog left me having mixed feelings. I agree that the web does have some dangerous things, but that is where educating comes in place. If parents take the time to teach their kids about the dangers of the web, then kids will have the knowledge needed to safely function on the web.
The web has tons of valuable information for making the our youth better students. The world around us is becoming more and more technology literate, so why should we shelter them from it.

The iSchool Initiative
WOW... There is a huge smile on my face. I cannot wait for ischool. Ischool sounds great for students, teachers, parents, and the environment. Ischool will save school systems all over money. This device will help to make students hands on with technology. The only concern that rises in my mind is are all students really ready for this. Other than that ischool sounds like a great new learning tool.

The Lost Generation
I like how she took time to state the facts first as an attention getter. Society says that because of our generation the world will no longer operate the way it does today. It is up to us to change the statistics that society has already set for our generation. Our generation has to get our priorities in order. We determine our future.

Eric Whitacres's Virtual Choir
What a way to use the vitual world. I find it very fascinating that people from all over got online to form a choir without never even meeting one another. They sounded excellent. If the web can be used to form a choir that sounds like this, then to me it sounds like the sky is the limit with the web. This video goes to show you how the web is a great tool for success.

CT4#1

The teacher's blog I was assigned to read was about an earthquake that took place near her. Technology is how she found out just how servere the earthquake was. She talked about how twitter and facebook were very good sources for keeping her updated on what was going on with the earthquake around her.

Blog Assignment 3

A Vision of Students Today
This video is sad, but so true. I pay all this money to retain information about things that I will more than likely never use in my everyday life. I will be in a ton of debt, but this is all because I want to better myself. They make it way too hard and exspensive for people to obtain a degree. My college experience has been exactly this way except in my EDM 310 class.
Since I have to pay all this money I should be hands on and excited about laerning. The information that is being taught in the majority of my classes will more than likely never even be used again.

It's Not About the Technology
This blog hit so many important points. When it comes to education proper teaching is a very important part of getting out information to kids. I like her point that teachers must also be learners. We need to learn the best ways for our students to learn. Teachers should be able to learn new and different teaching methods. If teachers are not able to learn the new technology trends and methods, how will we be able to teach them.
Technology in the hands of a teacher without good teaching skills would not do students any good. Technology should be used to enhance lessons, but not take the place of teaching.

Gary's Social Media
Those numbers were changing really fast. What does this mean for my career as an educator? The way these numbers were changing means by the time I hit the classroom the majority of my students will be use to being entertained by the internet. I guess my next question would be do I try to compete against technology for my student's attention or do I embrace technology and we use it both inside and outside of the classroom so they can learn better.

Blog Assignment 2

Did You Know
My reaction to this video left me saying, "no I did not know." The world that we live in is growing and changing technologically everyday. Where as the radio was the first form of communication for the majority of the population, now the internet is taking over. It is funny how many people are finding there mates on computers now.
Times have really changed and it seems like we all should be trying to get aboard the technology train or we are going to be left behind. I never knew how much of an everday process getting online had become. This video also helped me to see that I am not as in touch with my computer skills as I need to be.

Mr. Winkle
This video made me a little upset. We say our kids are the future and if that is true then why is there no technology skills being taught in our schools. When our kids step foot out of the classroom and into to the world as Mr. Winkle did, there is going to be technology all around. Students should be taught skills that are going to be needed in order to funtion in the real world. Those skills should not just be limited to what is in the textbooks.
Educators all over should start today to better the minds of the kids we say are our future. Schools all over need computers in every classroom. Technology is changing everyday, and so should the minds of the students of America.

Digital Smarts
This video put a big smile on my face. The kids seemed really excited to be learning. The teacher helped to get her students involved in getting familiar with using a computer and interacting with kids from around the world. More schools should have classroom settings like the one in this video.
I wish I had the opportunity to be be familiar with the latest technology before my junior year of college. I think that if we had more classroom settings like this one then students would have more opportunities at jobs that are opening.

Schools Kill Creativity
I really enjoyed this video. It made me laugh and think all at the same time. I totally agree with him. We begin to teach kids at an early age to stay in the lines when they are coloring, but why should they. Kids should be allowed to express themselves through their creativity. Creativity is what drives the individual.
A child should be able to to creative in the things they learn in school because one day that creativity may be the thing that helps him/her to suceed in their future. Each and every child is different and that is the way they all should be treated, as the unique individuals they are.
